Trading Online Voucher
National
Trading Online Voucher
Scheme for
Small Irish Businesses
Click titles to open…
The voucher is a financial incentive to small businesses to develop or enhance their ability to trade online.
Under the scheme a qualifying business may apply for funding to a maximum value of €2,500 or 90% of eligible expenditure (exclusive of VAT), whichever is the lesser.
Following approval of their application, a successful applicant can engage suppliers and upon completion of the work, submit a request for payment to the LEO in line with the terms and conditions of their voucher.
Information seminars will be made available online or by conference call to prospective applicants to support them in their application process and it will be a condition of applying for the vouchers that applicants participate in one of these seminars.
At each seminar attendees will be informed of the purpose of the scheme and how best to use and get value from the application of the voucher. The application process for the vouchers will be a competitive process.
The vouchers are targeted at businesses with the following profile:
- Limited or no e-commerce presence
- Ten or less full time employees (2 part time equals 1 full time)
- Turnover less than €2m
- Applicant business must be trading for at least 6 months
- Business must be located in the area covered by the LEO to whom they make their application i.e. LEOs cannot accept applications from businesses located outside their jurisdiction. Note that businesses within the Gaeltacht should contact Údarás na Gaeltachta as Údarás for their range of supports and not apply for this scheme via the LEO
- Previous voucher recipients may apply for a second voucher
- If voucher used for a website it must include a booking function or direct selling
- Business must be located in the area covered by the LEO to whom they make their application i.e. LEOs cannot accept applications from businesses located outside their jurisdiction
- Any Expenditure prior to date of approval is not eligible, grant aid cannot be retrospective
- Eligibility does not guarantee approval
- Go to the website of your Local Enterprise Office
- Register for and attend online, a Trading Online Seminar (about 90 mins. duration) to be eligible to apply. You are free to attend a seminar online hosted by any L.E.O., not just your own L.E.O.
- Get three quotes for the work you wish to carry out
- Apply online or by email for the Trading Online Voucher (TOV) including the three quotes you obtain
- Within 10 to 15 working days of applying you will receive contact informing you of the outcome of your application
- If approved you will receive a letter of offer which you must sign and return, you then have 4 months to have the work completed from the approval date
- The business (not the L.E.O.) chooses which web agency/developer of the three quotes it wishes to work with. It does not have to be the cheapest quote.
- Once the work is completed and you have paid the web developer(s) you can apply for the grant payment to your bank account

grant
examples
Here are some examples that help illustrate how the grant is calculated…
Example 1
School A applies for a TOV grant. They book a place at the TOV online seminar and attend it watching on their laptop or phone.
After this they fill in the application and they submit the three required quotes.
They recieve approval and opt for the quote that was for €1,750 + Vat (€2,152:50).
Once the work was completed within 4 months they pay the Web Agency and claim back 90% or €2,500 of their expenditure (whichever is the lesser).
90% of 1,750 is 1,575. The cost minus the grant was €577:50. If the business can claim back Vat the cost is then €175.
Example 2
School B applies for a TOV grant. They book a place at the TOV online seminar and attend it watching on their laptop or phone.
After this they fill in the application and they submit the three required quotes.
They recieve approval and opt for the quote that was for €2,900 + Vat (€3,567).
Once the work was completed within 4 months they pay the Web Agency and claim back 90% or €2,500 of their expenditure (whichever is the lesser), in this case €2,500.
90% of 2,900 is 2,610. Max grant is 2,500 so they get 2,500. The cost minus the grant was €1,067. If the business can claim back Vat the cost is then €400.
Example 3
School C applies for a TOV grant. They book a place at the TOV online seminar and attend it watching on their laptop or phone.
After this they fill in the application and they submit the three required quotes.
They recieve approval and opt for the quote that was for €4,900 + Vat (€1,127).
Once the work was completed within 4 months they pay the Web Agency and claim back 90% or €2,500 of their expenditure (whichever is the lesser), in this case €2,500
90% of 4,900 is 4,410. Max grant is 2,500 so they get 2,500. The cost minus the grant was €1,067. If the business can claim back Vat the cost is then €400.
We designed this 1 minute form, to ensure you get the most out of your 30 minute consultation call.
The answers help us to prepare and discuss only what is relevant to your school, regarding;
- Possible T.O.V. Grant eligibility (that’s why we ask about staff numbers)
- Website pages and features (that’s why we ask about your services)
- Google listings and rankings (that’s why we ask for your school details and location)
